Experiment Phase 1
Being from a place where fasting is unheard of, it became my mission to discover if I could survive the sacred time of Ramadan. I challenged myself to last the entire month (29 out of 30 days). So I set out for Afghanistan, disguising myself to look like the typical Muslim woman, covered from head to toe.
All I knew was that this was the Fourth out of Five Pillars of Islam known as Sawm. I was probably going to be starved and parched in the process, but I had no idea why. I was aware that it was a religious tradition, but were there any exceptions? I was healthy and well and ready to find out in my first go round.
